What is an Earthbound Spirit?

When people die, they are freed from their earthly body to become an energy source that is commonly referred to as a soul. When leaving the body at death, this soul is usually greeted by family, friends, loved ones, guides and angels. These spirits help guide the soul over to the “other side”. Though most souls make this transition easily, there are some souls that after death for one reason or another do not make the full transition to heaven. Reasons why the soul does not to cross are as individual as the person who has made the decision not to cross. Some common reasons are due to fear, anxiety, grief, traumatic death, anger, emotional pain, holding onto earthly possessions or because they just aren’t ready to go. These souls are known as 'earthbound spirits’.
Earthbound spirits have been thought in the past to remain in the physical plane of existence because they haven’t completed their transition. Though it’s true that they do remain earthbound, this energy field or vibrational level of existence is just above the physical plane. Because their vibration is just slightly different from the earth plane and much lower than the astral plane, these spirits are referred to as being on the physical plane hence “earth bound”.

Some earthbound spirits are aware of this transition to the spirit world while other earthbound spirits are not. Some spirits still believe they are living, just as they were before their death. Why is this? When a soul leaves their physical body, their soul or spirit is now residing in a non-physical plane of existence. Since it is non-physical, all physical properties cease to exist for the soul such as time and space. Time no longer continues the same way it does in the physical world and spirits get “trapped” in time or so it seems in their consciousness. Also, sometimes death can be so traumatic that they aren’t aware that they have died. Emotions can be very overwhelming for spirits. These emotions can cloud or disillusion the spirit from their guides, angels and family which is why they do not follow them to the spirit world.

Other earthbound spirits are aware of their death and have made the decision to not cross over. Again, this is for many different reasons. These spirits are earthbound on a more conscious level. They know that their guides, angels and loved ones are around to guide them to the other side, but make the decision to not go. Emotions cloud their better judgment from crossing over. These earthbound spirits will remain earthbound until they make the decision to shed their negative emotions enough to connect to their guides, angels and loved who will aid in their transition.

Though the spirit maybe blind or distracted from their guides and angels, they are never alone. Our guides and angels are always by our side ready to guide us home.
