One Step to Oneness

by Pamela Aloia

We hear so many of us speak of Oneness - being one with nature or one with a situation. With some things we can really run with this idea and we do feel what it’s like to be one with a beautiful sunset, a babbling brook, a grassy meadow, or time with loved ones. But the question arises - How do we become one with something we find not so pleasant? How do we become one with the headlines – with the injustices occurring throughout the world? How do we allow that into our subconscious and transmute it into a Oneness theme? Most people don’t want to be associated with killings, murder, or rape. Most people keep their distance from governmental concerns, leaving the “game” to be played by those who know it. How can we, the average US citizen, play a role in shaping the transformation of consciousness on this planet?

The common saying of “get your head out of the clouds” is a good metaphor here. Although, the saying’s intent is that one is spending too much time daydreaming or living outside of reality, let’s look at it in a different light where our head is truly in the clouds - the clouds of chaos – where we need to clear those clouds for us to see what’s behind them. Once we remove these clouds, we can only see the light that was there the whole time. In some respects the clouds are covering the light that people – including ourselves - don’t want us to see. Why don’t they want us to see? They don’t want us to see what wonderful beings we are at a given moment. Even in our rage, our gossip, or otherwise seemingly negative moments, we’re just hiding the light that we really have underneath. We all do this. So how can we so quickly judge another when their clouds become too thick for them to clear on their own? Sometimes we need to help others clear their clouds. It may be a one time occurrence or we may need to help them over and over and over again. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we’re there, clearing the clouds, helping each other - helping ourselves - see the light that exists in all of us. This is the first step to Oneness. For once we can clear away the clouds of chaos for others as well as ourselves, we bring ourselves closer to understanding - closer to knowing - how to find that Light in the most horrid of situations, and bring it to the surface.
