Ask Your Pet

Dear Jennifer,

Two months ago, I came home to find my precious Yorkie, Connor, deceased. There was no warning or explanation. Would it be possible for you to ask Connor what happened? Was it my fault? Did he suffer? Is he happy now? Does he visit me?

Dear Monica,

I’m so sorry this happened. While it’s hard to watch our animal companions suffer with illness or age, sudden crossings like this can be equally devastating. When I connect with Connor and ask what happened, the first thing I perceive is a strange feeling in my head and then my vision blanking out. He was conscious briefly and had a moment of what seems to have been more confusion than fear when it happened. But, he crossed quickly and didn’t suffer.

Connor is saying something went wrong in his brain, and there was nothing you or anyone could have done to prevent it. He doesn’t want you to feel guilty or doubt yourself. It was simply his time, and he’s so very sorry this happened. He sees your grief and pain and does his best to comfort you in his Spirit form. It’s very frustrating for him that you can’t see him, but he of course understands that’s the way things work. He just wishes you could see him and know he’s still with you and that he’s okay.

So, yes, Connor does indeed visit you often. He comes to you if he senses you’re sad or upset. He snuggles next to you in bed the way he used to love so much. He wants you to know that while he has crossed and spends much of his time in Spirit, he is still very much present in your home and your life, and will always be there for you.

Aside from his regret over your grief, Connor is happy. He wishes you happiness, healing, and acceptance, and says they will come to you in time. The bonds of love can never be broken. You will see each other again in Spirit, if not sooner.

Connors loves you very, very much, and thanks you for the wonderful, love-filled life you gave him. He knew how much he was loved and cherished. He loves you just as much, forever and always.
