Divine Wisdom From Michele Livingston

by Michele Livingston

Dear Michele,

I love your column and have learned so many spiritual insights about the soul from reading it! The last five-year period I have really awakened, but I’m still hungry to learn. I sometimes think I feel my angels, but is there a particular way to encourage them to visit me more often in my home?

Thank you,

Danielle

Hi Danielle,

There are various angels, including archangels, but usually our companion or guardian angel is with us all the time. Although angels do not have total free will (they were created to serve humankind), we as humans can invoke them into our living environment. One way is by burning white, pink or blue colored pillar candles or votives. White is the color of purity and the higher realms, pink the color of unconditional love and blue represents calm and peace. Angels are attracted to water, a purifying and healing element. Try floating a beautiful flower in a crystal bowl or install a tabletop fountain in your home (the energy of running water is soothing to the senses). Plants put oxygen into the air, cleanse the environment and magnetize angels.

A powerful point of spiritual contact is an altar that you can create, where you say your prayers or do your meditations. Start by covering a small table or shelf with a white cloth. There you will include the four elements–earth, air, fire and water. Earth could be represented with a small plant, gemstone, mineral or rock grouping; water with a fountain, a bowl or a vase filled with fresh flowers or even a vial of purified water. Burning incense or defusing essential oils stimulates the flow of air and of course candles denote the energy of fire. Arrange your candles in groups of 3. The number 3 represents protection, the Holy Trinity and the alignment of mind, body and spirit. Next, arrange your favorite images. These could be of angels, Blessed Mother Mary (who is known as Queen of the Angels), the Saints, Quan Yin, Buddha, Shiva, Jesus, your departed loved ones or whoever inspires you to help invoke the energy of the angels.

Place special treasures on your altar that are blessed and important to you–a cross, a medal, rosary beads, feathers, heirloom jewelry, a figurine of an angel, a star of David or whatever other symbolic objects you choose. You have now created a sacred place to be where angels gather, and here you will feel their protection, loving presence and guidance.

Dear Michele,

I have a question which involves spirit communication. My sister, Margaret, passed away about three years ago, and she was very close to my daughter, Karal. When my sister was ill with cancer the hospice workers let Karal visit and use aromatherapy to soothe and calm her. Margaret’s favorite scent was a clean and refreshing one called grapefruit mint. After the funeral, my family went to my mother’s house to regroup before returning home. While there, Karal claimed that she smelled a whiff of a grapefruit mint fragrance in the living room and said she thought it was her aunt Margaret communicating. She claimed the scent grew stronger, but ironically no one else was able to smell it. Karal also says she can perceive the fragrance at times in our home and when she’s visiting my mother’s place. Since Margaret passed away in her own home (which contained the aromatherapy scents) and they have since sold it, could it be possible that she is communicating with my daughter in other places with this unusual fragrance? ...or do you think that these occurrences are just her imagination?

Thanks,

Linda

Hi Linda,

I feel this is not your daughter’s imagination. Margaret is probably a "spirit guide" of your daughters and therefore uses these olfactory occurrences to communicate. Many people at my seminars ask about the sense of smell. "Could I possibly smell my dad’s cigarette smoke after he has passed away or the fragrance of my grandmother’s cologne in my room?" The answer is yes. Spirits can formulate various scents for you – smoke, flowers and even food smells are common. It’s one of the rarest forms of communi-cation from them, but it’s still possible. For example, when I was working on my first book, Visions from Mary, I often felt the presence of the Blessed Mother. One of the ways that I learned to sense her presence was the fragrance of roses. Even now, Mother Mary will send me the beautiful fragrance of roses when her energy is around me. My own father also communicates from the other side with the unmistakable scent of cherry pipe tobacco smoke, and he passed away when I was a teenager (many years ago!) Sometimes my husband smells it too and says, "Your dad’s here." So I advise my readers to be open and aware of pleasant or unusual scents around you. It just may be one of your loved ones trying to communicate!
