Excerpt from "No Name, No Number: Exploring the 11:11 Phenomenon"

Buying the 11:11 Convent

by Hilary h. Carter

I did not understand everything about the legal procedure because although I had been attending private French classes in preparation for my move, I was still far from fluent. I asked the lawyer about the address of the property as the legal documents just referred to ‘The property in Rue des Jardins’ and didn’t say what number.

“What’s the number of the house?” I asked.

“There is no number,” replied the lawyer.

“I mean what number in the street is it?” I asked. Naturally I expected it to be number 11 or 111.

“The house has not been allocated a number,” he said.

“No number? A house without a number? Well what’s the name of the house?” I asked.

“It has no name.”

No name and no number. Just a house. A house that used to be a convent….

Within the hour the papers had been signed, the monies transferred and I had a bunch of keys in my hand. ‘Now the fun begins…’ I thought to myself.

I had not had a survey on the property. I had seen on my first visit that the building had some rotten wood and structural issues, but that didn’t matter to me. As I had been led there by the number 11:11, I knew I had to become the owner whatever the condition of the place. My mind would have said that this house was a risky or even a foolish purchase but on the 11:11 path such thoughts need to be ignored. I was not in this as a money making venture. It was an investment, not in financial terms but in terms of my own spiritual development and in the search for some answers to the 11:11 phenomenon. As with the Spanish convent that I had once bought, I had the feeling that I was to become a Guardian rather than an ‘owner’. The convent needed me as much as I needed the convent. This was only my second visit, but my first visit as Guardian.

I entered by the upper gates and had to stoop under the massive branches of the hazelnut tree to reach the edge of the garden. If I entered by the high gate I had to walk down a long flight of stone steps to reach my gate. If I took the low gate I had to climb up the 23 steps that were on my land. As I stood surveying the extensive view I immediately became uncomfortably aware of the nearby ruined tower to my left. It stood eerily above my garden. The castle was very near my property. How come I had not noticed this tower on my last visit? I had visited in early summer so maybe the leaves on the trees had hidden it from view. Now that it was November and the trees were bare, it was clear that the castle tower cast a malevolent shadow over my garden. It had a dark, forbidding presence. The small unglazed windows of this old ruin looked down on me and I felt a powerful force of evil emanating towards me. Something was clearly resenting my presence. It was as if the tower was inhabited by unseen beings of darkness. As I stood there pondering this eerie sensation, the siren on the town hall suddenly blared out. I jumped. As the siren faded, the church bells began to peal. Noon exactly! 12 tolling bells is a very significant sign. It was that moment that marked the beginning of my relationship with the castle tower.

Despite the presence of the tower, I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation as I unlocked the convent door. I couldn’t believe that I had been courageous enough to buy it. Was I courageous or was I foolhardy? That I did not know. But I did know that some clearing work was needed. The residue of hundreds upon hundreds of years of history was buzzing away inside the building. Without the distraction of other people, the intensity of the energy was more apparent than during my first visit. Using my Tibetan bowl, chanting sacred mantras and burning my nag champa incense I cleared the first layer of psychic dross. My chanting resonated through the walls yet I felt a strong resistance from other levels. I soon realised that this work might take some time. There would be no quick fix.
