Teachings of the Brotherhood of Light Workers

The Importance of Life's Daily Grind

by Judi Thomases

The following segment has been received, word for word through a psychic process known as channeling. It is an invited procedure. The teachings always serve to guide us through the journey of life.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LIFE'S DAILY GRIND

If you are questioning the purpose of daily events in your life, and meaningless repetitions of actions or necessities, thereby feeling dragged down and discouraged by monotonous or non-varietal experiences, know that these play an essential part in grounding the personality in its identity, for it is not the highs or unusual and exciting experiences - the events that would carry you over a conditioned response into something thrilling - nor is it the lows, those moments in which your spirit feels crushed and you cannot see the daylight of life's purpose, that make up the meat of the life experience.

If life were a series of exciting thrills and depressing lows, you would feel like a pinball or rollercoaster, an agitation that would not give you sufficient time to process the intermittent and entertaining moments, and in fact, people who cannot sustain neutral periods without acting out or feeling numb are those with mental disorders, and are labeled bipolar or even schizophrenic.

Take a moment, then, to appreciate the daily grind, the boring sameness, the loop that you seem to be waylaid in and never freed of, for that is the sustenance, the foundation, the continuing pattern in which an identity is built and sustained. Not peaks and valleys, but long periods of flat ground. It is from these long stretches that you have time to think your thoughts - thoughts which can be full of variety and interest; thoughts which can move you emotionally into highs and lows rather than events doing such; thoughts which are really the whole game and purpose of life.

In these periods of boring activity but space for the movement of thoughts, you are building and maintaining your identity in this life. You are laying the basis and gradually putting up the structure of who you are. It is from this structure that you will have the opportunity to evaluate the experiences and events, to contrast one against another, and chew upon them with thought, and thus bring yourself to wisdom. Here is where you will find the treasure of the lifetime.

Therefore, appreciate your moments of routine. Doing laundry. Driving on errands. Fiddling with the television. Walking the same route. Seeing the same people. Having the same conversations. Appreciate these as the sand, dirt and gravel of your life - not exciting but oh, so necessary.

It is a wisdom in itself to know how important the everyday seemingly trivial details are, for it is you who grow out of all of them. You who develop. You who base your individual characteristics against this ground, or background.
